Portfolio Management

A portfolio should reflect a mandate—not a model’s convenience.

We manage investments around each client’s objectives, risk tolerance, restrictions, tax considerations, and time horizon.

How we work

Focused judgment. Broad opportunity set.

Optima provides discretionary and non-discretionary portfolio management. The process begins with the role capital must play, then moves from policy to security selection, implementation, and review.

01
Define the investment policy

Clarify return objectives, risk capacity, liquidity needs, restrictions, tax considerations, and the appropriate model allocation.

02
Build deliberately

Evaluate business performance, management, earnings, cash flow, return on invested capital, valuation, economic conditions, and portfolio fit.

03
Use the appropriate instruments

Portfolios may include domestic and international equities, fixed income, mutual funds, ETFs, private partnerships, alternatives, real assets, and cash where suitable.

04
Manage and review

Monitor portfolios continuously, provide quarterly reporting, and review objectives with clients at least annually or when circumstances materially change.

Investment approach

Fundamental at the security level. Adaptive at the portfolio level.

Focused equity portfolios are generally diversified across companies, sectors, and industries. Fixed-income and manager selection incorporate credit, interest-rate, currency, cost, operational, and portfolio-level considerations.

Risk is not eliminated.

All investing involves risk, including possible loss of principal. Options, short sales, international securities, fixed income, private investments, and alternative assets involve additional risks and are used only when appropriate to the client mandate.

Engagement terms

Transparent structure.

The standard portfolio-management fee is 1.00% annually, billed quarterly in advance and subject to negotiation. Clients also bear custody, trading, and underlying investment expenses, where applicable.

Optima does not receive commissions, sales loads, or performance-based compensation. Accounts are generally not accepted below $250,000, although exceptions may be made.
